The Crystal Cork Art Quarterly presents, "Sinn des Auges (Sense of the Eye)" photography by Alex Paschal, running February 11, 2012 – May 6, 2012; Opening Reception, Saturday, February 11, 6 – 8 p.m.; The Crystal Cork Wine Shoppe, 219 West First Street, Dixon, IL.
There is something mesmerizing about symmetrical imagery. Alex Paschal takes that innate attraction and amplifies it to a new level. With his photographic expertise, the clarity of the work invites the viewer to engage, perhaps revealing something about him or herself through what they see within the intricate compositions he creates.
Sinn Des Auges roughly translated from German, as "Sense of the Eye" is an exploratory abstract photographic exhibit from photographer Alex T. Paschal.
Through a digital mirroring process, Alex duplicated images of nature (for the most part) and created a balanced symmetrical piece. When he first fooled around with this process he was taken aback by the images within the work that it produced. Recognizable faces, animals, art - all unveiled themselves to Alex in these often-otherworldly prints.
States Alex, "It is my hope the viewer will explore these pieces and not be conditioned by the titles that were chosen from what I see and are reminded of. I consider it a sort of "Rorschach-ian" test."
Alex chose the German translation as a tribute to one of his favorite photographers Dieter Appelt. He considers his work to be a major influence in this exhibit.
Alex grew up in Rock Falls and received a BFA at NIU in 2000. He married Carla Miller in 2002 and is currently Sauk Valley Media Chief Photographer where he has been for 12 years.
