Best known for its restaurant
Reviewed by Matt, 2007-03-09 We've been to the charming but upscale Colonial Rose Inn restaurant a number of times and have never been disappointed. The restaurant serves high quality food that leans toward the gourmet. It is unquestionably one of the most romantic restaurants in the four counties, great for wedding/shower events, anniversaries, Valentines, etc..
The bar room with its corn burning fireplace is very cozy and a nice place for an after dinner drink and conversation.
The guest rooms are well maintained, most have small closet type bathrooms; each room does have a private bathroom. We stayed there at a cold time of the year and the rooms were very cold, the thermostat was kept low by the inn keepers. The guest room area is separated from the living quarters of the inn keepers and, if you're the only guests, can be too quiet. The breakfast was very good, food isn't an issue here. One of the inn keepers, Jane Rose, is a local and renowned, artist. the quaint town of Grand Detour where the inn is located is charming and has a "Vermont-esque" feel to it, very colonial like. A small stone church in town is worth a drive by as is the often visited John Deere Historic Site in town. Grand Detour is located between the quaint town of Oregon and the growing city of Dixon. Dixon offers shopping, two theaters, more dining, etc..
The colonial rose is best known for its restaurant but the friendly inn keepers, great breakfast and charming character of the old home make it a worthwhile stay. Just dress warm if you go in the colder months.
