John Deere Hammer In 2012 (Sat. 4 Aug, 2012 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)

The John Deere Hammer In 2012 will be themed '1 Man, 1 Anvil, 1 Plow to 175 Years Later!' and will commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the founding of the John Deere company.   At 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 4, we will have an "Anvils Ring" with 175 Blacksmiths at once, striking their anvils to "Ring In" our 175th Anniversary. Other Tradesman will be on hand exhibiting their skills and selling their wares. Basket Weavers, Broom Makers, Gunsmiths, Wheelwrights, Woodwrights and more. An Auction of items donated by the participants will be held from 1-2 PM on Saturday. Auction proceeds will be used by the two supporting Blacksmith Associations for their scholarship programs and future Hammer In events.Admission $5.00 for those 12 and older. Prophetstown Pow Wow (Sat. 4 Aug, 2012 10:00 am - 5:00 pm)

The seventh annual Prophetstown Pow Wow will be held Aug 4-5 at the Prophetstown State Recreation Area. The Pow Wow, which draws hundreds of Native Americans from the Midwest and other parts of the country each year, features dancers, drummers and flute players, as well as authentic Native American food, arts and crafts. A Pendleton blanket and other items will be raffled.
Grounds open at 10 a.m. Saturday and close when folks are ready to call it quits. Grounds open again at 10 a.m. Sunday and close at 4 p.m.
The Grand Entries are at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Reagan Trail Days (Tue. 7 Aug, 2012 9:00 am - 4:00 pm)

The Annual Reagan Trail Days is set for Aug. 7-12. The celebrations will kick-off with the traditional In the President's Shadow Wine Tasting event at the Ronald Reagan Boyhood home on August 7. The event is expected to be a sell-out again this year.
On Wednesday, August 8 families are invited to come to the Riverfront in downtown Dixon from 6-8 p.m. for free ice cream by Culver's and music by the local musician Jazzy Jeff.
Thursday, August 9 is the Community Picnic at Lowell Park, where Reagan saved 77 lives as a lifeguard. The picnic will feature a cookout by Fern's Cafe. Cost for dinner is just $3 and kids 18 and under eat for free. There will be free pontoon boat rides, face painting by the Dixon High School Cheerleaders, live music, and activities for the whole family from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday, August 10 will feature the Dixon Main Street Musical Fridays concert at Noon on the Riverfront featuring music by Ray Rose. Also on Friday is the annual Reagan Dinner Gala at the Next Picture Show at 6 p.m. The evening will honor former Dixonite's Dr. David Kuter, Chad Mumford and Lynn Knights. There will be music by the Reagan Centennial Jazz Quartet. Tickets for the elegant evening are $35 and reservations are required by August 3.

There will be Historic Trolley Tours of many local Reagan and Dixon historic sites from 12-6pm starting at the Riverfront. At 12 pm The Next Picture Show will begin their Art Truck Show on the Riverfront and at 2pm join Mama Cimino's as they celebrate 5 years in Downtown Dixon with a Peoria Ave. Block Party.There will also be a Bags Tournament starting at 4pm. And don't forget that Second Saturdays Art Happenings will be going on in the downtown starting at 6pm that evening.

Rock River Kayak and Canoe Flotilla (Sat. 11 Aug, 2012 9:00 am - 4:00 pm)

A joint effort of the Dixon Family YMCA and the Dixon Park District will sponsor a flotilla of kayaks and canoes which will paddle its way from Grand Detour to Dixon on Aug. 11, organizers said. Participants will set out at 9 a.m. across the street from John Deere Historic Site, 8334 Clinton St. They can register there or ahead of time for $10. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must wear life jackets. They'll take a rest stop complete with a snack and sports drinks at Lowell Park and from there, they'll continue to the large island just above the Dixon dam. Depending on how deep the water is, boaters will travel up to the lagoon in the middle island.5 to 6 hours after they launched from Grand Detour, they'll gather on the south bank of the Rock River for a cookout. The flotilla will be accompanied by a pontoon boat with a certified EMT on board.YMCA Executive Director Andy MacFarlane and other volunteers will offer free canoe and kayak safety courses in the Y's pool ahead of the event. Thursday, August 9 is the Community Picnic at Lowell Park, where Reagan saved 77 lives as a lifeguard. The picnic will feature a cookout by Fern's Cafe. Cost for dinner is just $3 and kids 18 and under eat for free. There will be free pontoon boat rides, face painting by the Dixon High School Cheerleaders, live music, and activities for the whole family from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday, August 10 will feature the Dixon Main Street Musical Fridays concert at Noon on the Riverfront featuring music by Ray Rose. Also on Friday is the annual Reagan Dinner Gala at the Next Picture Show at 6 p.m. The evening will honor former Dixonite's Dr. David Kuter, Chad Mumford and Lynn Knights. There will be music by the Reagan Centennial Jazz Quartet. Tickets for the elegant evening are $35 and reservations are required by August 3.
Saturday, August 11 will feature events throughout the day highlighted by Kid's Day at the Reagan Home. At 10am the Alzheimer's Association will hold its annual duck race on the Rock River. There will be Historic Trolley Tours of many local Reagan and Dixon historic sites from 12-6pm starting at the Riverfront. At 12 pm The Next Picture Show will begin their Art Truck Show on the Riverfront and at 2pm join Mama Cimino's as they celebrate 5 years in Downtown Dixon with a Peoria Ave. Block Party.There will also be a Bags Tournament starting at 4pm. And don't forget that Second Saturdays Art Happenings will be going on in the downtown starting at 6pm that evening.
Sunday, August 12 -- A special concert at the Historic Dixon Theatre at4 p.m. The Reagan Centennial Reprise Concert will be performed by the Dixon Municipal Band Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased at Trein's Jewelry in Dixon or online at www.dixontheatre.com. 16th Annual Rochelle Fly-In Drive-In (Sun. 19 Aug, 2012 11:00 am - 6:00 pm)

The Rochelle Municipal Airport invites you to the 16th annual Fly-In Drive-In 2012 on Sunday, Aug 19th starting at 11 am at Koritz Field located at 1201 W. Gurler Rd, Rochelle.    See many different types of planes flying in and out of the airport and watch the Chicagoland Skydiving center's jumpers take to the sky throughout the day.  There will also be a convoy of military vehicles and equipment from Roberts Armory on display all day.  The band BURN-N-BUSH will be rockin' the stage from 11a - 3p. Food on site will include pork chop sandwiches, hot dogs, Del Monte sweet corn, chips and cold drinks.

Antique Tractor Pull (Sun. 19 Aug, 2012 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The Riverbend Antique Tractor Pullers Association and The Mt Carroll Masonic Lodge are hosting an Antique Tractor Pull Sunday, Aug 19th from noon to 4pm at the Ag-Tech Warehouse, 759 Commercial Street in Mt Carroll. There is no cover charge and a Lunch stand will be on site so bring a lawn chair and plan to spend an afternoon of fun watching these agriculture workhorses of the past compete. No alcohol allowed.

Sterling Arts & Storytelling Festival (Fri. 31 Aug, 2012 11:00 am - 6:00 pm)

Friday, August 31, and Saturday, September 1, the Sterling Public Library and Woodlawn Arts Academy present two days of storytelling with four nationally known storytellers, a Juried Art Show and other fine arts related activities.Friday night features an art show and reception at 6 p.m., followed by stories for adults from 8 to 10 p.m. Stories for the whole family will be told from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Saturday, with a murder mystery dinner theater at 5 p.m.; stories in Spanish from 7 to 8 p.m. and Tales in the Dark from 7 to 9 p.m. A children's art show runs from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Admission is $7 for adult stories, $10 for the dinner theater, and free to all others, although donations will be accepted. Concessions will be sold and seating is available.The event is located at the Woodlawn Arts Academy, at 3807 Woodlawn Road in Sterling.
