Day 1 - Freeport & Rock Falls
On Oct. 2nd the Freeport Park District invites you to Oakdale Nature Center located at 4433 S Cranes Grove Road, Freeport for Oakdale in October. They invite you to start the morning off with a delicious pancake breakfast featuring locally made sausage and real maple syrup. Shop the Farmer's Market and crafter booths and take a wagon ride through the prairie. Kids can make a scarecrow and participate in nature crafts, hikes and old time craft demonstrations. Take time for lunch at one of the many family oriented restaurants located in Freeport.
Enjoy rural views as you head through the rural countryside to Rock Falls. A suggested route is Illinois Rt 26 South.
Your next stop is Selmi's Pumpkin Patch www.selmi.com located at 1206 Dixon Avenue in Rock Falls. Selmi's Annual Fall Festival features a petting zoo, corn maze and barn playland for younger kids, weekend horse drawn wagon rides, many outdoor displays and much more! Pumpkins, gourds, apples and gift shop will put Selmi's at the top of your family tradition!
After your day of family fun take a short drive and check into one of the family friendly accommodations that Rock Falls has to offer; All Seasons Motel, Rock Falls Super 8, Country Inn & Suites and the Rock Falls Hotel - all are located on 1st Avenue in Rock Falls and offer friendly service and are just minutes from many restaurants.
Day 2 - Rock Falls & Oregon
After a restful sleep & delicious complimentary breakfast offered by most of the motels, load up the family for an enjoyable drive to Oregon. Take in all the beautiful Fall colors as you make your way on Illinois Rt 2 which takes you along the scenic Rock River.
The Autumn on Parade Festival www.autumnonparade.org (Oct 2 & 3), is located on & around the Courthouse Square in downtown Oregon. In their 40th year, this well known festival features a craft fair, farmer's market, top-notch strolling entertainment and food provided by local not-for-profit organizations. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for the huge Harvest Time Parade on Sunday. Continue North along IL Route 2 to Stronghold Castle and the Old English Faire. Sword fights, vendors, strolling entertainment and tours of the castle will amuse the whole family.
