I have had the pleasure of visiting the John Deere Historic Site several times in the past few years and must say it is a hidden gem. I had lived in Illinois 23 years and never new about it until the Blacksmith Hammer-In back in 2004, when they made an authentic reproduction of the 1837 plow. The grounds are immaculate thanks to very dedicated crew, and the blacksmith there is one of the best in the country. The museum houses the actual archaeological dig of John Deere's shop. This is a must-see for anyone interested in history and who enjoys an active display of the period.
